Who will you write about? What makes a hero?

Here are a few of our ideas. Feel free to include your own…

  • Heroes are brave, but also selfless. They are willing to take actions and/or difficult decisions which put others ahead of themselves.

  • Heroes are humble. They are also patient. They rarely view their own actions as heroic and don’t expect praise. Many go years without receiving recognition, some never get any at all.

  • Heroes are caring and kind, strong but gentle. Small acts of heroism often go unnoticed by the wider public or news media. They also can mean the most to the people affected.

  • Heroes are inspirational. Their actions have a positive impact, whether on one life or on the lives of many. Their stories make you think, “in the same situation, would I act so nobly?”

  • Heroes are not just humans. There are some pretty courageous, selfless, inspirational animals whose heroic stories have withstood the test of time. We bet you already know a few.

  • Finally, heroes do not have to be famous or written about in history books, or even on the internet! Your hero might be your mother, your sister, your great-great-granddad, your classmate. Tell us their stories! We want to know!
